There is an organisation in Belgium called "Test Aankoop". They "protect and serve the consumer"... well, as long as you have a paid monthly subscription of course.
They had this action where they lured in their customers (aka victims) by offering free gifts.



My moms elderly neighbors sadly fell for this, and as promised they received a free tablet on top of their discount to their new subscription. They equipped this free tablet with a password and somewhere along the way, they either misspelled it twice in a row or completely forgot about it. Whatever it may be, the thing was doomed useless instantly and they asked me if I had a solution.

I agreed to take a look since it couldn't (in retrospect, shouldn't) be this hard.
However, the manual consisted of a single useless page, Google proved to not have a clue, and every single button combination or pattern I could imagine only resulted in a soft-reset. So I decided to contact them via an e-mail, accompanied by some very helpful images of the tablet I was referring to and a full explanation of the situation.


Of course I received no reaction or reply in any sense to this message.
The next logical course of action would be the telephone... Ooooooh boy!
After 45 minutes of being bounced around, trying different numbers and repeating myself over and over and over again to different employees I ended up with some arrogant foreign guy, who clearly gave no fucks about what I was explaining to him, probably thought I was kidding when I told him it was about the eleventh time I explained all of this, then he proceeded to tell me he couldn't help me, full stop.

At that point I got a bit angry with him and his entire establishment and demanded a solution since I was not going to take it that they use crappy "Hong Kong bought gifts" (as one of the previous employees mentioned)  to lure in elderly people and then proceed to leave them hanging in the wind. I couldn't believe that the guy started ranting uncontrollably next about respect and accusations and that he would not redirect me to anyone.

So this unhelpful chap:

  • Wasted my time
  • Annoyed me
  • Basically told me I'm fucked
  • Refused to redirect my call to anyone/anywhere

Nothing left to do but let the inner asshole out then! I sincerely hope this peace of shit gets sent back to whatever hole they found him in. It's fucking unbelievable that while many of my overqualified friends are going through hell on today's job market, lowlifes like this are getting paid to be unhelpful assholes by companies and organisations preying on our parents and grandparents.
